Prompt injection is when someone tries to trick the AI into doing something it should not — like revealing internal information, ignoring its guidelines, or providing harmful content. Good AI agent platforms have guardrails against this: they sanitize inputs, maintain strict behavioral boundaries, and limit what the AI can access and share.

Compliance Considerations

Depending on your industry, you may need to comply with: HIPAA (healthcare), PCI DSS (payment processing), GDPR (if you serve EU customers), CCPA (if you serve California customers), or industry-specific regulations. Ensure your AI agent provider supports the compliance requirements relevant to your business. This typically means data encryption, audit logs, data residency options, and data processing agreements.

Practical Security Checklist

Before deploying an AI agent, verify: data is encrypted in transit and at rest, conversations are not used to train third-party models, you own your data and can export or delete it, the platform has SOC 2 compliance (or equivalent), there is a clear incident response process, and you can set content boundaries for the AI.
